| USTDA Strengthens Support of Aviation Safety in India |
New Delhi, February 9, 2016
Today, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) awarded a grant to India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to support their efforts to continue meeting civil aviation safety standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). This project builds upon previous collaboration between USTDA and DGCA to improve their aviation safety oversight capabilities, which led to India attaining the highest aviation safety rating by ICAO this past year.
The Wicks Group, LLC (Washington, D.C.), a member of the U.S.-India Aviation Cooperation Program, will provide technical expertise to enhance current frameworks and provide continued on-the-job training to DGCA staff.
The technical assistance will allow the DGCA to improve its procedures, requirements and guidance for aviation safety. The assistance will also allow DGCA to continue developing a qualified and capable inspectorate staff and complete further certifications for air carriers and aviation training organizations. Also, this grant will provide the DGCA with more on-the-job training on certification processes and requirements, specialized surveillance approaches and activities, as well as new oversight activities.
USTDA signed this grant during the U.S. Department of Commerce-led Smart Cities Infrastructure Trade Mission that is visiting New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Vizag. The trip focuses on technologies, systems and services that will drive and enhance the sustainable growth of India’s infrastructure sector, while attracting industry to India’s growing cities and providing a higher quality of life for residents.
