Garuda Indonesia, the airline of Indonesia is going to launch its direct flight service from Mumbai to Jakarta via Bangkok from 12 December 2016. The airline’s Boeing 738 aircraft will fly three times a week. Targeting the seat load factor (SLF) in flights, it will reach the level of average SLF to more than 80 percent in the first week after the inaugural flight operations.
The aircraft with a two-class cabin configuration will feature its Business Class service and the world’s best Economy Class. The flight service of Jakarta-Mumbai route via Bangkok route will be available on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
With the launch of this direct flight service from Mumbai, Garuda Airlines adds the Indian subcontinent to its network. Currently Indonesia is one of the largest markets to India with bulk of people travelling to both the regions for leisure and business. This new flight service will enhance the inbound tourism to Indonesia from India and will also strengthen the economic activities of the both the countries.
VP Corporate Communications of Garuda Indonesia Benny S. Butarbutar commented, "We are delighted to announce that world's five star services will soon be available to guests flying to and from Mumbai. Our new service will connect seamlessly India and Indonesia, and offer the comfort, convenience and superior inflight service for travelers between Jakarta and Mumbai."
CEO & President Garuda Indonesia M. Arif Wibowo said, “The Market landscape of India, especially Mumbai being particularly promising potential, we are optimistic to meet the level of seat load factor above 80 percent in the first week of operation of these services Jakarta - Mumbai via transit Bangkok,” said Arif after a meeting with business partners and travel agents in Mumbai.
“In line with promising passenger growth trend Jakarta Mumbai route, we hope in the future we could serve direct flight, either through base hub of Jakarta and Denpasar to other promising destinations in India.” Arif added

Meanwhile, Assistant Deputy of The Asia Pasific Market Development Ministry of Tourism Vincencius Jumadu said “the direct link flight of Jakarta – Mumbai can countribute to increasing the number of India tourist visit to Indonesia up to 1 million visitors in 2017.
Bangkok was chosen as a connecting hub for Jakarta - Mumbai considering the double potential leisure opportunity on the flight of Jakarta – Mumbai which will be connected through Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok. Through the connecting flight, passengers could freely choose their travel arrangement to several tourist destinations by convenient flight connectivity.
The opening of these flights, Jakarta - Mumbai also in line with the government program, the Ministry of Tourism Indonesia is to increase the number of tourism visitors to Indonesia, especially tourist from India. In line with the joint synergies, Garuda Indonesia continues to strive maximize the base connectivity between two countries that expected to further strengthen the bilateral relations between Indonesia and India through increasing economy activity, tourism and socio-cultural.
Flights Jakarta Mumbai vv (via Bangkok) is also a part of the development program of networking Garuda Indonesia in Asia, particularly in southern Asia (Mumbai), where the city of Mumbai is one of the busiest economic center in India, and has the highest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of any city in South Asia, West and Central.
