The U.S. Consulate General
Mumbai announces the opening of its fourth annual short-film contest on the
theme of Women’s Safety and Empowerment.
The yearly contest is part of the U.S. consulate’s partnership with local
filmmakers, civil society advocates, and others to promote safety, dignity, and
equality for Indian women and girls. A jury panel will select winning
films from short-listed entries at a gala screening and award ceremony in early
December 2017, that coincides with the observation of the 25 November to 10 December, 2017 “16 Days of Activism against Gender
Violence” global campaign. Entries are being accepted from 1 October to 10 November, 2017.
Filmmakers, writers, and
advocates are invited to submit video entries of up to five minutes in
length that offer succinct, creative, and compelling messages. Video
entries may be in the form of stories, testimonials, advertisements, public
service announcements, or other creative forms of messaging that advance public
awareness of women’s safety and empowerment or that offer practical solutions
to these pressing challenges. The film contest is open to Indian
nationals residing in the U.S. Consulate Mumbai five-state consular district
that includes Chhattisgarh,
Gujarat, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
Submissions may be in any of the following languages Chhattisgarhi, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Konkani, Marathi, and Urdu. Entries not in English
should include English subtitles. Each entry must be an original work and
produced within the past two years.
