Ministry of Tourism, Government of India has invited State Tourism Development Corporations at a one day Workshop that was held on the 4th of July, 2012, at Hotel Samrat to join hands to promote the “Hunar Se Rozgar” initiative for skill development of Indian youth for employment. India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), the public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India is the premier implementing agency for the initiative.

The Workshop was inaugurated by Shri Subodh Kant Sahai, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism who sensitized the stake holders on “Hunar Se Rozgar” initiative and motivated them into action mode.  The occasion also saw the release of a brochure of “Hunar Se Rozgar”, a Compendium of “Hunar Se Rozgar”, a Compendium in Computer and a Radio Jingle.

The youth who have a minimum qualification of 8th class and are between the age group 18-28 are eligible to get training and other benefits. ITDC-run Ashok Institute of Hospitality & Tourism Management (AIH&TM) has been registered as the training provider and all Ashok Group of Hotels serve as training laboratories for the scheme.

The “Hunar Se Rozgar” Scheme consists of 6 weeks training programme in F&B Services and 8 weeks training programme in Food Production. Training is provided in batches of 25 to 30 students and is free of cost. In case the attendance of a student is above 90%, he is eligible to a stipend of Rs. 1500/- per month for F&B Services and Rs. 2000/- per month for Food Production. Uniform and tool kit are provided free of cost to the students. On completion of the training, course test is conducted and certificates are issued to the successful trainees. AIH&TM also assists the students in finding suitable placements.

In order to deliver maximum benefits to the society, ITDC has entered into tie-ups with eminent organizations and reputed NGOs viz. IL&FS Skills Development Corporation Ltd., DLF Foundation, Ark Shipping Management Goa, Prayas, Campus & Beyond, Martyr Flight Lieutenant Maheesh Trikha Foundation (M-Trix), NIPS School of Hotel Management, Kinship for Humanitarian Social & Holistic intervention in India (KHUSHII), National Institute of Applied Management (NIAM), Basix Academy for Building Lifelong Employability Ltd. (B-ABLE),  Neemrana Group of Hotels, Desh Hriday Man Development Society, College of International Management-Nagpur (CIM) , Rural Institute of Skill and Enterprise Development of India (RISE India) and Childreach International India.

The initiative “Hunar Se Rozgar” has been well received and is one of the successful ventures of the Ministry of Tourism. Youth trained under this scheme have been absorbed in various prestigious hotel chains where they are performing commendably. Thus encouraged, ITDC, under “Hunar Se Rozgar” banner, has plans to start the training scheme in new trade courses which are designed to enhance the employability aspect basis the demand of the industry viz. Front Office, Security, Retail Marketing and Drivers.

ITDC, with its mandate to develop and expand tourism infrastructure in the country, is catering to this demand by imparting world-class training and skills to underprivileged students and offering job opportunities to  bridge the gap between the demand and supply in the tourism and hospitality sector.
