Air India has received its first GEnx-1B-powered Boeing 787 Dreamliner. This aircraft is one of 27 GEnx-powered Boeing 787 Dreamliners that have been ordered by India’s national carrier.
“GE Aviation is excited to have its GEnx-1B engine begin flying with Air India,” said Chuck Nugent, General Manager of the GEnx Program at GE Aviation. “The GEnx engine is performing exceptionally well since it entered service in October, and we look forward to continuing this success with Air India.”
Mr. John Flannery, President & CEO, GE India said, “We congratulate Air India on this historic moment. We are proud that Air India has partnered with GE to bring next generation technologies into the country. GE’s GEnx engine will enable quicker travel time, support cost and fuel efficiencies as well as create a cleaner environment, all of which are important priorities for India. It is our constant endeavor to deliver solutions to our customers that bring business benefits to them and help change lives in a positive manner.”
Along with operating GEnx engines, Air India is a GEnx service provider and has signed a GE Branded Services Agreement (GBSA). Under the GBSA, Air India will be licensed to perform maintenance and overhaul work on the GEnx-1B engine. GE will provide Air India with assistance on overhaul workscoping and component repair licenses, comprehensive material support and training.
Air India is also the launch customer for GE Aviation’s GEnx TRUEngineTM program on the GEnx-1B engine. Qualification for TRUEngine status includes a customer declaration and a submittal of maintenance records to ensure the overhaul practices, spare parts and repairs used to service an engine are consistent with GE-issued engine manuals, service bulletins and other maintenance recommendations.
Revenue-sharing participants on the GEnx are IHI Corporation of Japan, Avio SpA. of Italy, Volvo Aero of Sweden, MTU of Germany, TechSpace Aero of Belgium, Snecma (SAFRAN Group) of France and Samsung Techwin of Korea.
The GEnx is part of GE's "ecomagination" product portfolio - GE's business strategy to develop new, cost-effective technologies that enhance customers' environmental and operating performance.
