Inaugural Business Transformation Series To Boost Travel Agent Capabilities

Travel agents can look forward to the first event of the Business Transformation Series which will bring together an estimated 80 travel agent owners, senior management, HR directors and staff. “This inaugural event of the Business Transformation Series aims to further educate and inspire travel agents to leverage their strengths and continue to value-add, in order to remain relevant and competitive in today’s fast moving business environment” says Ms Fiona Lim, Chairman of Manpower and Training, National Association of Travel Agents Singapore(NATAS).

Organised by NATAS, supported by Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and Workforce Singapore (WSG), in partnership with Travelport and Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), the event comprises keynote addresses, sharing sessions and panel discussions. This follows from the launch of the Travel Agent Roadmap in August 2016 which aims to enable travel agents to go beyond ticketing and order-taking, towards becoming designers of travel experiences through the three main focus areas of Business Transformation, Manpower and Technology.

The event commencing 27 April 2017 at PARKROYAL on Beach Road is one of many joint projects by the Business Transformation Committee (BTC) for the year ahead. The BTC comprises of NATAS, SIMTech, STB and WSG. The planned initiatives include the Business Transformation Series, Travel Towkay Talks and the development of the Business Transformation Playbook for the travel agent industry.

A Specially Curated Line-up of Talks and Seminars

The Series will run from 27 to 28 April 2017 and will feature a Human Resources (HR) Seminar, Travel Towkay Talk and GDS Bootcamp. During the HR Seminar, keynote speakers and panellists from organisations of a diverse scale and scope will introduce participants to sound and useful HR practices to help improve business profitability and strategies for talent retention. Participants will also discover more about the benefits and findings of HR diagnostics by SPRING Singapore, and the available government agency grant supports from STB and WSG.

The Travel Towkay Talk organised by SIMTech will focus on sustainable business growth through an informative and thought-leadership sharing format with SIMTech sharing details on the OMNI-LITE programme designed to help companies in the manufacturing and services sectors enhance business efficiency and effectiveness. Finally, the Global Distribution System (GDS) Bootcamp conducted by Travelport will be pivotal in training travel agent staff and expand their knowledge in the area of ticketing and inventory management.

“We have seen strong support and participation for the Travel Agent Roadmap thus far. Through related initiatives such as this Business Transformation Series and the upcoming Travel Agent Innovation Challenge, travel agents can be further enabled to better deliver memorable holidays to our visitors and local residents as designers of travel experiences” says Ms Ong Ling Lee, Director, Travel Agents and Tourist Guides, Singapore Tourism Board.

Ms Julia Ng, Group Director, Enterprise Development Group of WSG said, “The travel industry will have to adopt new business models to overcome increasing competition from digital travel platforms. As a strategic programme developed in support of the Lean Enterprise Development Scheme (LEDS), OMNI-LITE is one of our available programmes to help companies review current business models and create new value propositions for enterprises to drive growth and create better quality jobs for employees. WSG will continue to support enterprises in their adoption of manpower-lean practices in their business transformation.”
