UT of Diu and Indiatourism, Mumbai comes together to promote Tourism

IndiaTourism, Mumbai along with Daman and Diu Tourism Officials, successfully held a Tourism Promotion Meet in Mumbai on 12 February, 2018. Mr. Hemant Kumar, IAS, Collector & District Magistrate, who is also in-charge of Tourism and Ms. Neela Lad, Regional Director, (Western & Central Region) IndiaTourism Mumbai came together to jointly promote the tourism activities in the Union Territory of Diu. Mr. Hemant Kumar interacted with the Travel Agents and Tour Operators of Mumbai who had shown interest in working closely to promote Diu.

Mr. Kumar, said, “We are pleased to work together with the Indiatourism, Mumbai office to achieve a common goal of promoting Diu in Domestic & Overseas market. We are proud to announce that Diu has become India’s 1st Solar Power sufficient UT. Before 2020 as Government of India is planning to develop India as a Digital India even we have come up with various services, considering the seaplane service and chopper service which will reduce the time limit by 40 minutes to reach the Diu from Ahmedabad. We are focusing to tap the market fror bird lovers as from October to February all the migrated birds flock to the Diu mangroves which transforms Diu as a best Bird- Watching Destination. Every year we organize Festa De Diu, which is Asia’s unique & longest Beach Festival. This festival stretches to 15 days, where many foreign as well as domestic tourist visit Diu. We have also tied up with INTACH for restoring the Historical sites in Diu and are hopeful to receive more foreign and domestic tourists in Diu in coming years. Working together with the Indiatourism, Mumbai will help in create awareness about Diu, in turn receiving more foreign as well as domestic tourists.”

On the occasion, Ms. Neela Lad said, “There is a huge tourism potential that the Union Territory of Daman and Diu has to offer in terms of the heritage, architecture and experience that can explore. We are committed to create the right environment and information to the tourists for promoting Diu from our Office. Along with the local tourism authorities we want to work hand-in-hand so that we can create a win-win situation for all stakeholders. While the state tourism boards are doing a great job in promoting their offering, together we can collaborate and work towards the right kind of branding and promotion and giving tourists an experience and memories to last for a lifetime.”

Daman & Diu have a mix of natural and manmade attractions. Diu is one the cleanest Islands in India. With the very low crime rate, Diu almost is a crime-free Island. Diu has beaches namely Jallandhar, Nagor, Simbor, Gomtimata, and Chakratirth etc. From the array of Forts, Panikotha, Churches, Museum, Nagarseth Haveli, Gangeshwar Temple, Sea Shell Museum, Naida Caves Diu has lots more to offer to tourists. One can explore the heritage culture of the UT, along with Heritage Walks organized by the tourism board. Diu has 69 Hotels, and the Redevelopment of Circuit House will extend a wide range of accommodation for a comfortable stay. Diu’s main source of income is Tourism, Fishing, Foreign Remittance and Merchant Navy. The Government is dedicated to promote Diu as “The best island beach destination in the country, known for its serenity and pristine beaches”.
