For example a ritual in every typical Tamil household is the cleansing of the front yard with water mixed with cow’s dung, which is a natural disinfectant. This is followed by adorning the space with beautiful ‘Kollams’, which are intricate geometric patterns laid freehand with rice flour by the lady of the house.

Start your evening with a stroll through the ‘Village walkway’ where you can see and participate in a host of traditional games such as Kittipul, Pandi, Golli gundu (Marbles), Pallanguli. Kitttipul is all about precision in hand eye co-ordination while Pallanguli needs you to do quick arithmetic to win. Aadu pulli aattam (ancient form of chess) and Paramapatham (today’s snake and ladder) are some popular board games of yesteryears. That you can play and purchase here.
The crafts bazaar has a series of demonstration units where you can see craftsmen engaged in their livelihood occupations such as pottery, weaving, basket making, etc., Shop at the “Kadai Theru” (Kadai – Shop, Theru – Street) for ethnic jewellery and Madurai’s famous Sungudi cotton or Chinnalapatti silks. Take home artefacts and handicrafts made by local craftsmen. Astrology - If you want to take a peek into your future or check out your compatibility with your partner, have a sitting with the kai rekai josier (palmist) or kili josier (with a parrot as fortune teller).
In evening feast your senses on the highly evolved classical arts – Bharathanatiyam, Tamil folk arts- Karagam, Kavadi, Oyilattam, Thappattam, Poikkal kudhirai; TAMIL martial arts such as Silambattam or Varmakalai; ‘Thorpavai Koothu’ an ancient art form of puppetry theater using props made of goat hide, depicting stories mostly from the Ramayana at our charming puppetry theater and “Sayaratchai’ evening pooja at the temple complex which has a pantheon of Hindu Gods from the benevolent Lord Vinayagar (Ganesaha) to the Navagrahas (Nine planets).
