On the Trail to Tiger Country

Central India, the region comprising southern Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha of Maharashtra, has been rightly declared Tiger Country and Nagpur as the Gateway City to this beautiful region.

No other place in the world gives you a close view of more than 300 Tigers in 7 Tiger Reserves, in such close proximity of an International Airport City - this is what Nagpur offers! North of Nagpur

Starting from Nagpur, Pench Tiger Reserve is 80kms and takes you, to the tales of famous Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling.

Excursion - Ramtek, an ancient temple atop the hill of Sri Rama (it is believed Lord Ram rested, here a while during his exile). A panoramic view of the landscape dotted with lakes, of which the Ambala and Khindsi lakes offer religious and water sports opportunities, respectively.

Mansar, the fort at Nagaradhan, and the recently set up adventure sports camp, make it a perfect destination for all types of tourists.

Go Vidnyaan Anusandhan Kendra Project at Deolapar, it's a unique initiative to produce and market highly effective medicines from Cow's secreted milk, urine, & stools the project is recognized by the ICSR, New Delhi.

The place is packed with bundle of activities from Jungle Safaris to nature trails. One can stay here for 2 nights. Accommodations here range from luxury to budget resorts offering plans that include all meals and great services. The evenings treats you with Saila Tribal dance, along with BBQ or Bonfire dinner.

Kanha National Park  (240 kms, approx 5 hrs drive)- The park has a significant population of Royal Bengal Tiger, leopards, the sloth bear, Barasingha and Indian wild dog. It is recommended for 3 jungle safaris and stay for 2 nights. The Baiga Tribal dances, and visit to tribal villages and markets are add ons.

Bandhavgarh (220 kms further to the north east, and takes approx 5 hrs drive from Kanha), one of the most famous Parks in Central India which was previously home to the white tiger. Jungle safaris here, will be a different experience than the earlier ones, especially the landscapes.

Excursion: Fossil Park and the Bhandhavgarh fort, with the famous reclining Vishnu statue, are added attractions.

ADD ONS: If time permits for another 4N/ 5 D, you can visit the Panna National Park, squeeze in nearby attractions including Khajuraho. From here next destination is Jabalpur famous for marble rocks and water falls of Bhedaghat.

Satpuras Pachmarhi (an deal get-away for 5/6 days) Situated on Satpura Range with numerous tourist spots adjoining Satpuda National Park. It is close to nature one can opt a long walks along beautiful pathways, breathing in the fresh air and soaking in the ever enchanting landscapes of the Satpura range.

Excursion: Muktagiri, the hill dotted with Jain temples. Chikhaldara Hill station and Melghat Tiger Reserve, the first Project Tiger in India.

Visit to Gawilgarh and Narnala Forts , and the old Moghul city of Achalpur, takes you back into history and is ideal for those looking for monuments and architectural splendors.

South from here is the famous town Shegaon, which has the revered saint  Gajanan Maharaj's Samadhi and is visited by lakhs of devotees every year. Further is Lonar, which is the world's largest meteorite crater in Bassalt rock. Nearby is Sindhkhed raja, the birth place of Chhatrapati Shivaji's mother Jijamata. Mehekar is famous for its BalajiTemple, and is in close proximity.

South of Nagpur

Tadoba Tiger Sanctuary, on the way is the beautiful Markanda temple, of Lord Shiva on the eastern banks of the Wainganga river.

Excursion: This area offers an opportunity to see living Gandhis–in –action. Some legends from this region Baba Amte's Anadwan, Dr Prakash Amte's Hemalkasa and Dr Abhay Bang's Gadchiroli. Gandhiji's Ashram at Sewagram & Achrya Vinoba Bhave's at Paunar gives a glimpse of Ganshiji's life epitomizing “Simple Living & High Thinking”.

East of Nagpur is Nagzira Tiger Reserve, Navegaon Bird sanctuary.

West of Nagpur are Melghat Tiger  Reserve and Bor Sanctuary.
