67% of Indian Travelers find Airports most stressful factor

Leading travel search site Skyscanner recently conducted a global survey which revealed the preferences and perceptions of Indian travelers. The analysis revealed that more than two-thirds (67%) of Indian travelers found their airport experience as the most stressful part of their travel.

The international survey conducted by Skyscanner of over 20,000 respondents from 12 nations asked respondents which elements of travel were the most stressful. Brazilians and Brits join Indians in voting airports, with their queues and security checks as the number one stress factor; for the Germans, Italians and Spanish, it’s the hunt for cheap flights that tops the stress chart, and for Russians it was organizing visas and travel documents that caused their blood pressure to rise. Russians require visas to visit many countries, adding extra hassle and expense to their travels.

Kavitha Gnanamurthy, Skyscanner’s Market Development Manager for India, said, “With travel & tour operators, international tourism boards and airlines catering to the varied tastes and preferences of the discerning Indian traveler; choosing a destination has become more difficult. The stability of the Indian economy resulting in higher disposable income as compared to the bleaker situation in Western Europe and the US has meant that more destinations now vie for the Indian traveler.  Moreover, the depreciation of the Indian rupee is also a major reason for Indian travelers to carefully choose their respective destination with cheap flights without burning a hole in their pocket.”

The Skyscanner survey also highlighted that the third most stressful aspect for Indians was the search for cheap flights. With a overabundance of Indian and international airlines offering tactical packages at different times, getting the best prices for flights is clearly a time-consuming as well as a stressful process for many.

The analysis of over 3,100 Indian respondents revealed that finances, finding accommodation and arranging travel documents were the least stressful factors for Indians planning their travel.

Kavitha also added: “Airports are doing more to ease the stress of passengers, but queues, security checks and delays mean that airports rank as the most stressful part of a trip. The hunt for the cheapest flights is also a big stress factor and can be very time consuming considering the number of flight and airline options. This helps to explain why Skyscanner has seen such an increase in users over the last five years, with more and more people wanting a quick and simple way of finding the cheapest flights, quickly.”

As a worldwide average, the most stressful element of a trip was deciding where to go, which took 30% of the vote, followed by the airport experience (25%), and the search for cheap flights with 24%.
