Goa known for
its vibrancy and long stretched beaches. The town hosts the tourist year round
but the iconic city is more VIBRANT at the time of Goa Carnival Festival. One of the most famous festival of Goa
mostly celebrated in mid – February every year. And this year the dates are 10
to 13 February 2018. There is celebration in villages and cities all across Goa
through Panjim, Mapusa, Margoa and Vasco da Gama are centric. The parade
with its floats, entertainers and dancers moves through the major cities.
The celebration
continues up to three days. And the roads of Goa are filled with graceful
dancers, processions, guitars music, etc. this is the best time to visit Goa
and enjoy the amazing festival of Goa. It is said that when King Momo won the
state Goa then he enjoyed this win ceremony with music and colors. So in
respect of this mow the people of Goa celebrate this Carnival Festival with
music, dance and color. This festival is celebrated since 18th
century.
Being the
most colorful festival, it witnesses a lot of zeal and zest by the Goan people;
the streets are extravagantly decorated and come to life with all the
procession, music, graceful dances and merrymaking. The entire state is
decorated with streamers and colorful ribbons and papers. A play cum dance song
of Mussol is a special attraction. The costumes and dresses are vibrant and
colorful. The unique headgears will surely capture your fancy at once. Boys and
girls start preparing by designing their costumes. They also have to prepare
for the mock battle. They fill packets and cartridges made of paper with bran,
husk or sawdust or plain powder to use in the mock battles. All geared up, by
the eve of the carnival, the excitement runs so high in the blood that anyone
can barely sleep at night.
The carnival
starts with a magnificent display of colorful Floats. There is a riot of colors
on the street when the procession comes in its true form, all geared up with
sparkling floats and troupes of masked revelers. On the opening day of the
carnival indulge in merry making. The next 3 days are marked by celebrations of
the Goan culture. The mornings are dominated with singing, feasting and
organizing street plays while the evenings are usually full of dancing, balls,
etc. on the wide open streets.
All the Goa
becomes a party zone, girls flaunting frills and boys with their cowboy hats. There
are people who wear masks which resembles nursery rhyme characters as well as
cartoons. Massive colorful parades take over the state’s cities with bands,
floats and dancers, while the evenings are dedicated to partying at whatever place
the person is. A number of acrobats, brass bands, clowns, dancers, fire eaters,
jesters etc. are seen to be performing in the streets of some of the major
cities of Goa.
Fireworks,
fortune tellers, children forming their own musical orchestra, elders ones on
funny costumes, there are just few scenes you will spot. The carnival comes to
an end with the well liked red and black dance held by the Club National in Panaji.
Goa carnival
is merriment and representation of Goa culture. Floats, colossal parades,
bands, balls and dancer together symbolize the Goa Carnival. It conquered by
pleasure, enjoyment and merry making where individuals come together and spread
joyfulness and happiness.
