MOT to host International Travel Mart from 21st-23rd November in Shilong

Ministry of Tourism to hosts the annual International Tourism Mart in Shillong, Meghalaya. The event promises an immersive experience from November 21 to 23, 2023 as a global platform for travel enthusiasts, industry professionals, and explorers alike to explore the North East.

Set against the picturesque backdrop of Meghalaya's hills, the mart showcases the region's diverse offerings, from cultural gems to breathtaking landscapes. Expect a convergence of cultures, a showcase of indigenous crafts, and a plethora of tourism opportunities. With expert insights, business networking, and the charm of Meghalaya's hospitality, this event becomes a gateway to unlock the treasures of Northeast India. 

The state is all set to host the 11th edition of the International Tourism Mart (ITM) in Shillong from November 21 to November 23. Updating about the event, Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh said that during the three-day event, the state will be showcasing the art, handicrafts of the state, and nominate tour operators, home stay owners as sellers for the B2B meetings. He mentioned that Meghalaya has a lot of potential and a lot can be done in this sector for the benefit of the state and its people.

Stating that the ITM 2023 will be a landmark event for the state as it plays host for the first time, Lyngdoh informed that the major aim of the event will be to promote tourism. “We will have international participants from various countries who will be introduced to our crafts, tourist spots, activities. Tour operators, hoteliers will also be involved, so all stakeholders will be part of this. Through this event, we want to showcase Meghalaya as a tourism hub at the international level,” Lyngdoh added.

The planned sessions for the International Tourism Mart (ITM) in Shillong this year, spanning three days promise an enriching and diverse experience:

Reshaping Northeast – Improving Connectivity: This session likely focuses on discussions and initiatives aimed at enhancing transportation and connectivity in the Northeast region. Improving accessibility can play a crucial role in promoting tourism and economic development.

Travel for Life and Sustainable Development of Destinations in North East: Emphasizing sustainability, this session aims to explore ways to foster responsible tourism and ensure the long-term well-being of the Northeast's natural and cultural resources.

Adventure Tourism: Way Forward: Focusing on adventure tourism, this session could delve into strategies and opportunities for promoting adventure travel in the Northeast. From trekking to water sports, the region's diverse landscapes offer ample potential.

B2B Sessions are likely dedicated to fostering collaborations and partnerships within the tourism industry. This platform provides opportunities for networking and establishing connections between businesses and stakeholders. And the Cultural Programme would adds a vibrant touch to the event. It could showcase the rich cultural heritage of Meghalaya and the Northeast through performances, art, and traditional festivities.

The event is taking place just after the Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival which is held in November, this festival celebrates the blooming of cherry blossoms. It's a lively event featuring music, cultural performances, and contests, adding a vibrant touch to the city.
