Mr. O P Badhoni Appointed as CEO of Lekhak Gaon

Lekhak Gaon, India’s first-of-its-kind Writers’ Village, has appointed Mr. O P Badhoni as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO). His leadership is expected to enhance the development and operations of this unique literary retreat, providing a creative sanctuary for writers, poets, and artists from across the globe.

Spread across 25 acres in the serene surroundings of Thano, on the outskirts of Dehradun, Lekhak Gaon was inaugurated by former President of India Ram Nath Kovind along with Uttarakhand Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd), Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, and Censor Board Chairman Prasoon Joshi. The visionary project was conceptualized by former Chief Minister and HRD Minister, Govt of India, Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal (Nishank), inspired by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s concern for providing writers with a dedicated space for creative pursuits.

Designed in traditional Pahadi architectural style, Lekhak Gaon features a central building, a well-stocked library, a museum, writers' cottages, and a traditional ‘bhojanalaya’ serving authentic Uttarakhandi cuisine. It is a retreat where literary minds can immerse themselves in tranquility, drawing inspiration from the lush greenery and cultural heritage of Uttarakhand. The village recently hosted its first major event, ‘Sparsh Himalaya Mahotsav,’ which saw participation from writers representing over 40 countries, both in-person and virtually.

Governor Gurmit Singh highlighted the importance of Lekhak Gaon as a beacon of literary innovation, stating that it will play a pivotal role in shaping literature, art, and culture in the region. Chief Minister Dhami emphasized that the Writers’ Village embodies the essence of creativity and self-reflection, offering an ideal setting for writers to connect with nature and their inner thoughts.
