Team NIMAS Concludes Iconic Har Shikhar Tiranga Mission with Mt. Kangchenjunga Summit

In a historic feat that fuses patriotism with adventure, Team NIMAS (National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports) has successfully concluded the iconic Har Shikhar Tiranga (HST) Mission — a pioneering initiative to hoist the Indian Tricolour on the highest peak of every Indian state.
On 18 May 2025, after 35 days of grueling silence and endurance in the Himalayas, five core members of Team NIMAS and their team lead — stood atop Mount Kangchenjunga (8,586 m), the highest mountain in India and the third-highest in the world. The successful summit marks the final leg of the 3-year Har Shikhar Tiranga Mission.
The HST Mission was more than just an expedition — it was a nationwide journey of grit and resolve, covering over 30,000 km to identify, climb, and celebrate the spirit of India’s diverse geography. The mission revealed many unknown facts, such as Mt. Reo Purgyil being the highest peak of Himachal Pradesh and an unnamed point in the Naina Devi Range as Punjab's highest elevation. The lowest summit was Someshwar Fort in Bihar, at just around 800 metres.
Notably, while Mt. Kangchenjunga remains the highest under Indian control, its sacred status restricts climbs. Similarly, Nanda Devi is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and biosphere reserve. Thus, the team also summited Mt. Kamet (7,756 m) in June — the highest climbable peak in India.
Comprising 20 core members, including elite instructors from NIMAS, the mission is a testimony to the institute’s unique three-dimensional training modules across land, air, and water — a first-of-its-kind platform in the country empowering civilians and aspirants of adventure sports.
With 100% success and five climbers on the summit, this final ascent was a tribute to every Indian who dared to dream, supported the mission, and believed in its cause.
“This wasn’t just a climb. It was history in the making. To the mighty Kangchenjunga — you humbled us and made us better,” Col Ranveer Jamwal expressed.
